Mercedes All Electric Sprinter Van Reveal

Auto Attention was selected to detail two Mercedes eSprinters for the reveal at the Mercedes-Vans manufacturing plant here in Charleston, SC. We started early in the morning, getting to work and checking in to security at the Mercedes Vans plant at 4:30 AM. We washed and detailed two eSprinter vans getting them ready for the team of photographers and stood by the rest of the day to make sure the vans were up to our high standards of cleanliness. The next day we arrived early again to prep the vans for the live TV reveal inside the Mercedes-Vans plant. The eSprinter will launch in the U.S. and Canada in the second half of 2023 as a long-wheelbase cargo van with the high roof. The North American vans will be built right here in Charleston, South Carolina.

Car and Driver says in an article, " Right now, electric cargo vans are a fringe market, but Mercedes-Benz says that starting in 2025, all new Benz vans will be electric. Along with the electric Rivian Amazon vans and the Ford E-Transit, the 2024 e-Sprinter is on the leading edge of stealth delivery vehicles. Imagine the GMC Vandura A-Team van, but completely opposite.

While some of Benz's EQ models err on the side of freaky futurism, the e-Sprinter mission statement is "like a Sprinter, but electric." So it looks conventional and offers the same trademark commodious and versatile interior that has caused many a tradesman to trade in their Econoline and join the high-roof Euro-van movement. Which is distinct from the Volkswagen Eurovan movement, in that it tends to involve upfitting from Knapheiderather than Houseplant."

NBC says in another article, "Unveiled on Tuesday, the latest eSprinter is confirmed to start sales in the U.S. in the second half of 2023. Production for the U.S. will be handled at Mercedes’ plant in Charleston, South Carolina, where the current internal-combustion powered Sprinter is built. Local production allows Mercedes to avoid the 25% tax on imported light trucks and other commercial vehicles.

Unlike many electric vans that use modified versions of platforms originally developed for internal-combustion engines, the eSprinter benefits from a dedicated EV platform known as the EVP (Electric Versatility Platform). It consists of a front module that houses high-voltage power control hardware and is common to all versions of the platform, as well as a center module designed to fit one of three battery configurations, and a rear module for a single electric motor. The EVP has been designed to offer two wheelbase lengths, as well as a chassis cab configuration."
